Food fortification standards operationalised by FSSAI

 

The standards for fortification of food items like salt, edible oil, milk, wheat and rice with iron, folic acid, Vitamin-D and Vitamin-A have been operationalised in the country by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India(FSSAI)
NEW DELHI: The standards for fortification of food items like salt, edible oil, milk, wheat and rice with iron, folic acid, Vitamin-D and Vitamin-A have been operationalised in the country by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India(FSSAI).
Minister of Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi informed Rajya Sabha. She said that 42.5% children under 5 years of age are underweight and 48% are stunted. But data shows decreasing trend.
She said that government has accorded high priority to the issue of malnutrition and is implementing several schemes/programmes of different ministries/departments through State governments/UT Administrations to address one or other aspect related to nutrition in the country. This Ministry is implementing Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme, Scheme for Adolescent Girls, and Maternity Benefit Programme as direct targeted interventions to address the problem of malnutrition among women and children.
