Chinese authorities uncovered 287 batches of sub-standard imported food last month. This was stated by the country’s general administration of quality supervision, inspection and quarantine (AQSIQ) in Beijing recently.
The sub-standard food encompassed 17 categories. The AQSIQ website said that most of them were candies, biscuits and beverages. Wrong labelling, poor quality and food additives were the major problems found with imports from 34 countries or regions.
The AQSIQ also uncovered three batches of sub-standard cosmetic products imported from four countries or regions, which were either wrongly labelled, contained forbidden or restricted substances, or did not match their certificates.
These products were either sent back or destroyed, and did not re-enter the Chinese market.
